Japanese Language Program

Suggestions for Summer Study to Prepare for JPN 4

Listening and Reading

  • Digital えほん
Digital えほん ("picture book") is designed for pleasure reading about old Japan.
    1. Voice
First, listen to the audio recordings as many times as you wish without looking at the story text. Then, read the story text, using the English translation as much as you need. Read to gain the general idea of the story; you do not have to understand every single word, although the stories do provide a good context within which to learn new words.

    2. Readings without voice
      Easy, fun readings:

      More challenging yet manageable readings:

      • うさぎとかめ (a good one)
  • Mangarama
This is good listening practice; includes transcripts and audio.
