JPN 3
Prerequisites:
The course is designed for students who completed JPN 1and 2 at UC Davis with a grade of C- or better; others can enroll with permission of the instructor, based on the
student's placement test results.

Objectives:
You will learn to talk about your family, health, and memorable experiences. You will also learn how to give advice, ask permission to do certain things, and
express your desire to do certain things. Lists of new kanji information learned chapter-by-chapter with the course textbook, as well as a cumulative list of all kanji learned by the end of JPN 3, are available for download from Kanji Lists page. New spoken and written skills, keyed to chapters in the textbook, include being able to:
Chapter 10: My Family
- Identify and address family members and other relatives
- Talk about families, including family size and ages of family members
- Describe a person's physical appearance, skills, residence, and marital and employment status
- Respond appropriately to praise of your family members
- Read and write about family members (their appearance, etc.)
Chapter 11: Memories
- Talk about Japanese holidays and what months they occur in
- Talk about activities you often did in high school and in childhood
- Tell when and how long you did things in high school and in childhood
- Give explanations
- Report what you have heard from others
- How to format a letter and address an envelope Japanese-style
- Read and write letters about recent vacations
Chapter 12: Health
- Talk about your physical conditions and health, including causes and what you can and cannot do as a result
- Give suggestions and opinions about what a person should do
- Ask for and give permission
- Talk about what you and other people want to do
- Read and write about health and activities that affect one's health
