Japanese Language Program

Tutors and Interns

Tutors devote 3 hours a week assisting instructors in foundation-level Japanese language courses.

Qualifications

Both native speakers and proficient non-native speakers of Japanese are eligible to apply. In the case of non-native speakers, only students who completed JPN 4-6 with grades A- or better, or have equivalent proficiency are eligible to apply.

To Apply

Tutors enroll for one unit (or in exceptional cases, two units) of JPN 197T (see work description [pdf]). In order to enroll in JPN 197T, prospective tutors must fill out tutor application forms (available for download here [pdf] or at 310 Sproul Hall). Completed tutor forms should be submitted to a folder next to 310 Sproul Hall no later than the 5th day of the class.

Teaching Interns

Interested students may also apply for internships (JPN 192) to learn how to teach and/or develop instructional materials. Contact Ritsuko Shigeyama to arrange a meeting with her.
